Flowers of Our Lady

Also at our April meeting, Francesca Anthony gave a presentation about an organization dedicated to the development of gardens honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Gardening can be a prayerful work. A garden may be made edifying and instructive to children and adults. And now you, your family, and neighbors may honor Mary by prayerfully sowing, tending, harvesting and offering flowers and plants named for her in old popular tradition.

Mary’s Gardens was founded in 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to research the hundreds of flowers named in medieval times as symbols of the life, mysteries and privileges of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus–as recorded by botanists, folklorists and lexicographers; and to assist in the planting of “Mary Gardens” of “Flowers of Our Lady” today.  For more information, please go to www.mgardens.org or paste this link into your browser http://campus.udayton.edu/mary/resources/m_garden/marygardensmain.html

The Banner was last seen at a Communion Breakfast in the 1980’s.  We hope that someone has it in his or her attic storage!  If you have any information about its location, please call Diane Van Blarcom at 973-594-0130.

Mission

St. Philip the Apostle Rosary Society is a spiritual organization whose primary focus is prayer and devotion to the Blessed Mother through the recitation of the Rosary and participation in Mass.

We welcome all women of the parish interested in deepening their faith in Jesus Christ through prayer and meditation on the Mysteries of the Rosary.  We usually meet once a month for Mass followed by the Rosary and Fellowship in the Auditorium.

For more information, please call Diane VanBlarcom at

“To Live is Christ”

Please be patient while the pictures load!

Last year, Bishop Serratelli created a Diocesan Honor to recognize the contributions of the faithful to the mission of Christ and His Church. The Vivere Christus Est medal is awarded to women and men throughout the diocese as a way of expressing gratitude and appreciation for unselfish service to their parish community.

As Father Paul mentioned in his recent letter in the bulletin, Mary “joined, belonged to and volunteered for almost every organization she could….Most recently she has served as an Extraordinary Minister, a member of one of our consolation teams, and a Columbiette.”  Mary is also a member of our Rosary Society.

Our Lady of Czestochowa

At our April meeting, Fr. Pawel Szurek gave a wonderful presentation on Our Lady of Czestochowa the Queen of Poland.

Fr. Pawel gave us a short history lesson on Poland and discussed the legend and facts about the picture.  He showed us many icons and pictures of Our Lady that he brought with him from Poland.  Thank you Fr. Pawel for sharing personal stories about your family’s devotion to Our Lady of Czestochowa.

In addition, Fr. Pawel introduced his CD, Spiritual Contemplation: An Awakening of the Soul and autographed his new book, “A New Day – 30-day Spiritual Renewal”.
